This post must start off with new background information. We got a dog! Hooray! His name is Eli, he's about two years old and the sweetest thing you'll ever meet. He doesn't bark (yet) he doesn't whine (unless you've stopped petting him) and he loves to cuddle (which is great until he sits on your yarn and refuses to budge).
So, Eli is a true sweetie. Unfortunately, dogs from animal shelters come with a whole list of things they need done, plus a few surprises. For example, today's vet bill will cost us well over $300 due to his needing all of his shots and heartworm treatments. Which is okay, because a few vets charge up to $1,000 for the heartworm treatment- luckily ours has pity on shelter dogs. And luckily, most of the costs today are one time deals, or yearly checkups. And that's just fine, we knew what was gonna happen when we chose him.
What we didn't expect was for him to get sick. Poor baby. We weren't 100% of the food they had him on at the shelter, but we did know it was Purina so we put him on Purina adult dog food and within day two he was refusing to eat. And vomiting. And having diarrhea. Poor Eli... poor carpet... poor couch.
Luckily, the moment he started to feel sick he ran for the door. Unluckily, it took us a full day to figure out that he was so smart. When the dog comes looking for you and then goes towards the door it doesn't mean he's interested in what you're doing. It means he needs outside, NOW.
So Eli woke up feeling great this morning. He ate his breakfast, dragged me all over for a walk, peed on like 19 different bushes and was super happy when David came home to take us to the vet. Where he was left for an overnight stay. I sure hope he doesn't think he's getting abandoned again.
Eli started life at a shelter when he was like 3 or 4 months old. Then he was adopted and a little over a year later he was found on the street and brought back into the same shelter. After a month stuck in a little cage there (the big dogs get moving room, the little ones get stuck in cages) we found him and brought him home. And now he's stuck at the vet's office.
Which worked out, because my house smells like sick dog. I know, it's as gross as it sounds.
So when we got home we attacked the house AGAIN (yesterday I cleaned downstairs) and the couch is now soaking in Oxyclean/Febreeze.
And I figured, well the bathrooms need to get done and I was going to do them anyway today so lets just get it over with and aim for a nap afterwards. So I grabbed my yellow gloves (because I'm not touching anyone's poopy toilet without them) and my Fantastick and went to work.
Toilets are gross.
Showers are difficult.
Floors are AWESOME thanks to my very handy and yummy smelling Swiffer Wet Jet.
No Mr Toilet, you'll never be as wonderful smelling as my Swiffered floors, but that's okay, it's something to aim for.
I cleaned in a tank top and a pair of David's pt shorts.
They're a lovely shade of military green.
They no longer smell (thank you to a good soaking oxyclean/ detergent/ and vinegar).
But they are ridiculously short.
Oh yeah, and they have underwear built in.
An icky tight mesh stuff that just totally grosses me out, but I'd rather get cleaner on one of his 18 pairs of ugly shorts than on any of my clothing (which is minimal since 80% of it still resides at my parent's house).
Anyway,
That's been my morning.
I owe much of it in part to today's sponsor: Dunkin' Donuts Coffee.
Thank you Dunkin' Donuts.
Yum.
